The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced an additional $3.6 million in grants to support agricultural producers and small business owners in rural Pennsylvania. The grants are part of the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) and bring the total funds for this fiscal year to over $21.8 million. Performance Toyota, a car dealership in Berks County, received a $226,000 grant to install solar panels, facilitated by Freedom Solar. The solar panels are expected to save the dealership approximately $28,600 annually and generate enough energy to power 26 homes. Wen-Crest Farms LLC in Lebanon County received a $229,200 grant to purchase and install a 243-kilowatt solar panel for its chicken farming operation.
